Merger of Dr Krishnan’s Surgery
and Oxford Terrace & Rawling Road Medical Group
1st February 2020
After many years of dedicated service to the community Dr Krishnan has decided to retire. Dr Krishnan was very keen to ensure his patients continued to receive the excellent care that they have always had and he felt that a merger with Oxford Terrace & Rawling Road Medical Group would provide this. The practices have worked closely together as part of Bensham Federation along with two other local practices over the last four years, so have good working relationships already and share some staff that work across both practices.
We undertook an extensive consultation process from 6th September to 29th November 2019. We wrote to 13000 households, held drop-in sessions, consulted with Gateshead Healthwatch, local practices, Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Health and Wellbeing Board, local councillors and the Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group. We are writing to tell you that there has been overwhelming support for the merger, and it has been agreed by the NHSNGCCG Primary Care Committee that the merger will happen on 1st February 2020.
This merger means that the two practices transfer to a single NHS contract with one clinical system. Staff were engaged from the outset so that they could support the process and provide information and reassurance to the respective practice patients. 108 Rawling Road site will close on 31st January 2020, but there will be no change to frontline services. The proposed merger of Oxford Terrace & Rawling Road and Dr Krishnan’s Surgery will only lead to positive benefits for all patients, however if you require any further clarification please do not hesitate to contact me on 0191 477 2169 or email: email@example.com. Alternatively if you would like to talk to an independent body, you can liaise directly with Healthwatch on 0191 477 0033 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
